Naxos can be reached by plane or by ferry. Both options have clear advantages and suit different starting points and travel styles. Below you will find everything you need to know about how to get to Naxos, whether you prefer a quick flight or a scenic boat trip across the Aegean Sea.
Getting to Naxos by Plane
Naxos has a small airport: Naxos Airport (JNX). Most flights arrive from Athens, but in high season there are also connections from Thessaloniki and Crete. The flight from Athens to Naxos takes about 45 minutes, making it the fastest way to reach the island.
Airlines such as Olympic Air and Sky Express (please check while booking that you are not using Esky by mistake) operate several daily flights to Athens. During the summer months, flights to Crete and Thessaloniki are added a few times per week. The number of flights increases in the peak travel season, offering more flexibility for visitors.
The airport is only a few kilometers from Naxos Town (Chora). Driving to Villa Almiriki in Stelida takes around ten minutes. A taxi costs about 25 euros (2025 rates). A convenient alternative is booking a rental car for pickup at the airport. Tripadvisor lists daily prices for a small car between 26 and 44 euros in 2025.
Getting to Naxos by Ferry
Traveling by ferry is a popular choice. Especially in the high season is often cheaper than flying and gives you the chance to enjoy the beautiful Aegean seascape.
From Athens, ferries depart from Piraeus and Rafina. The journey takes between 3.5 and 6 hours depending on the type of ferry. High-speed ferries are faster, while conventional ferries are slower but more spacious. Major companies such as Blue Star Ferries, SeaJets, and Golden Star Ferries offer daily services to Naxos.
Naxos is also well connected with other Cycladic islands. You can reach the island from Santorini, Mykonos, Paros, and Syros. Most of these routes take one to two hours, depending on the service chosen. This makes island hopping an exciting way to travel through the Cyclades.
In summer there is also a direct ferry connection from Heraklion, Crete to Naxos. Many travelers choose this route to combine the cultural history of Crete with the natural beauty of Naxos.
The port of Naxos is located close to Naxos Town. From there, it takes about ten minutes by taxi or rental car to reach Villa Almiriki in Stelida.
